PDP Women Group Seek Cancellation Of Gov Poll In Nasarawa No fewer than 500 women of the Peoples Democratic Party from across the 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State sought the cancellation of the governorship poll held in the state on Tuesday.  The group of women all dressed in black and led by the state women leader of the party, Stella Oboshi, with other non-party members stormed Lafia, in a peaceful protest, demanding for the cancellation of the March 18, 2023 polls.   Court Jails Civil Servant Over Job Scam The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured the conviction of a civil servant, Ahmad Kabiru Gana, for a job scam. This was made known in a statement shared via the EFCC’s Twitter handle on Tuesday. Gana promised to assist the petitioner in joining the Nigeria Police Force for a cost of N287,000 which he failed to fulfil. The statement said, “Court Jails Gana for Job Scam The Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC has secured the conviction of one Ahmad Kabiru Gana before Justice A.   Alleged N6.9bn: Court Adjourns Fayose's Fraud Trial Till May 8 T he Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State, adjourned further hearings in the trial of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose and his company, Spotless Investment Limited, over an alleged N6.9 billion fraud until May 8, 2023. This was disclosed in a statement shared via the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Twitter handle on Tuesday.   For the second time since the Supreme Court ruled that the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes will remain legal tender until December 31, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has refused to speak on the judgement.  O n Saturday, an official of the CBN told Soflat tv that the communications department has not been informed of any new developments on the Supreme Court judgement. Asked when the CBN will start releasing cash to banks, the official replied they "don't have that information". The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the old bank notes will remain as legal tenders while also declaring that the N20,000 withdrawal limit set by the apex bank was illegal. Without any official pronouncement from the CBN, Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) cannot act outside the last instruction by the apex bank that N20,000 will be the withdrawal limit for individual account holders. THE Supreme Court on Friday nullified the Federal Government’s cashless and naira redesign policy, declaring it as an affront to the 1999 Constitution. I t also held that Presi- dent Muhammadu Buhari breached the constitution in the manner he issued directives for the redesigning of the banknotes by the CBN. The apex court also held that unlawful use of executive powers by the president inflicted unprecedented economic hardship on the citizens by denying them ownership of, and access to, their money. The court, in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim on behalf of the seven-member panel of Justices of the court, voided and set aside all the directives issued by President Buhari in respect of the naira redesign and circulation on the grounds of illegalities and abuse of executive powers. 2023 Elections: Peter Obi defeats Tinubu in Lagos  Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP  Peter Obi has defeated the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Lagos, his home state. Though Tinubu won more local government areas, Obi defeated him with the majority of the votes cast. All the results of the 20 local governments have been declared. Tinubu won in 11 while Obi won in nine local governments.  With the results declared, Obi polled 582,664 while Tinubu scored 541,850.
